how to unmerge contacts?

i just got a new macbook air yesterday, i logged into my apple id. today i just tried calling my friend so i go into my contacts but they're suddenly merged with my mom's. i looked up this question on google and it says we might be sharing the same icloud. i end up untoggling both of our contacts in icloud so they don't sync but they did anyways. i asked my mom if we share the same account but she says no. i'm not sure what to do, i don't know if i should just manually delete her contacts off my macbook, but i don't want it to end up syncing more and it deletes of hers too. how do i fix this?

As per this article Set up and use iCloud Contacts - Apple Support

* If you have contacts information stored On My Mac, that information will not automatically sync. In Contacts, drag a contact from On My Mac to All iCloud, or export your contacts as Vcards, then manually sync with the Finder.

Open address book and its preferences , in general section click on drop down arrows of Default account and select on my Mac see the article Change General preferences in Contacts on Mac - Apple Support

Now from contacts side bar , under iCloud section > All iCloud select the desired contact ( just click on it ) or if the contacts are in vertical series hold shift key click on the first contact and then last they will be selected and drag and drop in my Mac section > over All on my Mac , you can also use ( command and A keys ) to select , copy ( command and C keys ) , ( command and V keys ) to paste them .

Note : Apply this on your mom Mac as they will be removed from iCloud but visible in your Mac as both Mac are signed in with same Apple ID and password on the same network , however they are not deleted from your's and mom Mac .

Contacts are simply moved to other location that is over All on my Mac , syncing between two Macs will still continue .

See some screen shots .
