connect iMac to LG 27UK600-W display

I have connected my 2012 iMac to my LG 27UK600-W monitor via the thunderbolt 2 to HDMI connection. It connects, but the resolution is 640 x 480. How can I get a higher resolution on this monitor? Is there a special driver I need to install? I've tried the monitor controls, but when I switch to a full resolution on the monitor, I get a very small rendition of the 640 x 480 on the LG monitor. So It seems like something has to be done on the iMac end to transmit a higher resolution.

Go to Apple > System Preferences > Displays > Display > hold the Alt (option) key > click on the Scaled button and select a higher resolution.

What TB2 to HDMI adapter and HDMI cable are you using?

One or the other (most likely the adapter) may need to be replaced with one that supports higher resolutions.

Also what other inputs does the LG display offer?

If it also supports DisplayPort input, then you would be better off using a TB2/Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable.

Thanks for responding. My problem is that when I click the Scaled button for my LG HDMI display, the display option box is empty! There are no resolutions to pick from. The LG display hardware occasionally warns me that the display is set for 480 x 640 and that this is not the standard resolution.

Unfortunately when I click the scaled button under display for the LG HDMI , no resolutions show up in the box to pick from. It's stuck at 480 x 640.

Hello, rick_brusch.

You can find the display resolution controls in System Preferences > Displays.

There you can adjust the resolution and the mirroring or extended view options for the external display.
