Syncing Photos albums across devices

I created an album in Photos on my iMac that I would like to be able to view on my iPhone and iPad. I have iCloud photos turned on in all devices, and also turned on upload to photo stream and shared albums. Yet the album I created does not show up on the phone and iPad. How can I make the album accessible on the portable devices?

Hello Frankgold,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We are happy to help you!

We understand that you are unable to sync a photos album across your devices.

We have provided you with a few different informational articles:

Sync your photos manually using the Finder

Sync photos between your Mac and iPhone or iPad

"You can sync photos on your Mac to your device. You can sync all or a selection of photos from your Photos library on your Mac. For example, you can sync a selection of favorite albums or photos of people.

You can also sync photos from your Pictures folder or another folder that you organize to hold photos. For example, you can import photos from a camera into a folder in the Finder. You can organize your photos in multiple folders within a folder and sync the folders to a device.

Synced photos appear in the Photos app on your device."

My Photo Stream

There are certain formats that are compatible with Photo Stream, Please see below:

"Photo formats that you can use with My Photo Stream

My Photo Stream supports JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and most RAW photo formats. My Photo Stream doesn't support video or Live Photos."

We hope this finds you well!

Cheers!

Thank you for the reply, i_rina. So if I understand correctly, I cannot share an album created on my desktop in iCloud photos with my iPhone and iPad unless I use the Finder option, which requires physically connecting the device to the desktop? And the photos have to be on the computer in Photos, not just in iCloud? I would have thought iCloud would take care of that via syncing photos among devices in the cloud. But I'll try the Finder suggestion and hope it works for what I need.

Best,

Frank

Hello Frankgold,

We have provided you with some helpful information on how to transfer you photos from iCloud to your Mac.

Download iCloud photos and videos

"On your Mac or PC

  1. On iCloud.com, click Photos and select a photo or video. Hold the command key on your Mac or control key on your PC to select multiple photos or videos.
  2. Click and hold the download button  in the upper corner of the window. If you want to download your photo or video as it was originally captured or imported, choose Unmodified Original. For JPEG or H.264 format — including edits, and even if it was originally in HEIF or HEVC format — choose Most Compatible.*
  3. Click Download.

If your photos download as a ZIP archive, learn how to uncompress the folder on your Mac or your PC. "

We hope this finds you well!

Cheers!
