Photos only importing partial of images selected

has anyone discovered that images you try and import within the photos application on apple computer doesn't import all images? How I import images is through image capture via SD and save it within a folder on my computer. I than go into photos and import the images but before I deleted my images off my desktop I discovered that I was missing images when I scrolled the the images. I attempted to import again with the application but it didn't import those missing ones. I just ended up selecting all of the images off my desktop, copied them and just pasted them into my imports folder with photos and that seemed to work. Matter of fact is asked me to i wanted to import duplicates when I didn't this step and can you believe over 250 images were missing.

has anyone experienced this and what could be happening?

All great questions. The files themselves are JPEG's, and I discovered that we're just manually reviewing what was important to the actual folder contact. I had noticed a lot of images I had taken that weren't there from the import. My photos is on my external drive. If I import one it seems to work but I've noticed if I import more than like 100 or so in a flood up. However I found at the simply copying pasting works better. Any thoughts on my issue?

So if your photos library is on your external drive, it needs to be correctly formatted for compatibility with a photos library. That means it must be formatted APFS, or MacOS extended journaled with the ignore ownership checkbox checked. It must also be directly connected, not via a network (ethernet or wifi)

If not there is a risk of gradual build up of damage to the library - with risk of eventually it stopping working (or working erratically such as you are experiencing). Including loss of access to all your photos in the library.

If you didn't format the drive, then most likely it was formatted ExFAT, which is not compatible with a Photos library. Re-formatting will erase the drive which means you will need to move the library somewhere else (also correctly formatted) while you do it.

Sorry - the photos you are importing are on an external drive? Or your photos library is on an external drive? If it is the library, then the drive needs to be formatted APFS or MacOS Extended as mentioned above.

You can check the format from the info pane of the drive (select drive in finder and CMD-I)

If your library is not on an external drive, is it in your pictures folder?
