Apple Watch won’t pair after trying to update

My Apple Watch asked me to do an update which I clicked on. After this my Apple Watch went back to factory settings and asked to be paired again. Trying to pair with my phone and is coming up with software update is available for this Apple Watch update now to continue setting up. Says it’s activating then says it may take a few minutes. Then comes up unable to check for update . Checking update failed due to not being connected to the internet try again . This just keeps going around in circles. Both phone and watch connected to internet?? Cannot use my watch at all ???
