how to reset imac g5 without the os cd

Long story short: i just goit this mac. its a imac g5 (i dont know its specs) and i need to factory reset this thing as it was origially used in schools also i have a windows keyboard

You will absolutely have to have a system disc for it. A G5 long pre-dates the online Recovery Mode of newer Macs. You will have to find something like Tiger or Leopard retail version discs on the used market. Don't buy grey colored ones that were machine-model specific as it is too easy to go wrong.


Sometimes Macs were fussy about using Windows keyboards for basic level stuff like booting.

A temporary solution could possibly be a (free) Linux disc. Perhaps an older version of Ubuntu, or one of its derivatives. PowerPC versions are difficult to find today, so you will have to search. You may have to test a number of distributions. Normally, a bootable/live Linux CD/DVD can be created from an ISO file (using a Mac or PC). When booting from a disc in the optical drive, hold down the C key.
