Apple Watch- Fall Detection Without a Cellular Plan

Hello,

I would like to get an Apple Watch for the fall detection feature for my grandmother. She has an iPhone, but uses it only for Facetime. It does not have a cellular plan. She has Internet/Wifi.

Would fall detection work with the iPhone and her wifi (no cellular data plan)?

The elderly holds an Android phone but can provide WiFi (Hotspot) connection to the Apple Watch, does anyone knows if the watch will still be able to reach emergency contacts in a event of a fall detection?

Do you have to have a Apple Watch with cellular capabilities to use the fall detection or will a regular one work? My mom wants a Apple Watch for the fall detection. Does she need one with cellular capabilities or will a regular one paired to her phone work?

Yes but the phone must be in bluetooth range of the watch in order to make the call to emergency services.
