Smartrip Washington DC.
I tried to add a smartrip card whose number starts with 0162 to wallet in my iPhone XR but it was not detected. Is the card too old? The instructions in wallet says that the card starts with 0167.

Age of the card (tech obsolescence) might indeed have something to do w/ it.
Looking at our own WMATA records, I see that my wife and I BOTH had to replace our own SmartTrip cards back in 2014.
Do not recall the exact reason - other than it was due to a WMATA tech upgrade - but our “new / replacement” cards were indeed 0167s.
I also seem to recall that replacing (upgrading) the cards - both had a considerable $$$ amount on them - was a relatively pain-free process.
