How do I get rid of the tab bar?

I am not using tabs now, but the tab bar is showing under the bookmarks bar with just one tab displayed. It just showed up yesterday. I can't get rid of it, and I can't find any information about how to get rid of it.

HI,

I have my iBookG4 here running v10.4.11 and Safari 4.1.

When I Ctrl click a tab I see the: Close Tab

Perhaps your Safari .plist file is corrupted. Try this...

Go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop.

Relaunch Safari and see if that makes a difference. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder. If Safari functions as it should, move that .plist file to the Trash.

If that doesn't make a difference, from your Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Empty Cache. Relaunch Safari and try closing a tab again.

Yes, even though my last message shows a time stamp of 2:46, your message stamped 2:44 was not visible to me when I created it. There must be a time delay involved. The procedure using library and preferences seems to have worked. It caused my home page to change, but I was able to change it back. The tab bar is gone now. I don't understand how it worked, but I am glad it is fixed and I didn't have to put all those preferences back in (I presume that is why I recorded them). Thank you very much!
