Selecting phone carrier

I sent my wife’s phone to Apple to get replaced and got a new phone in return. When I bought the first iPhone at Apple I got it unlocked to any SIM and now this replacement is asking me to choose a carrier. I don’t want to lock this phone to a carrier. What can I do?

My phone carrier Hey so last year I bought an IPhone 8 from Walmart.com, earlier this year I got service for my phone. When I bought the phone it said it was unlocked. When I put my SIM card in it was locked. My carrier can’t unlock it, Walmart can’t unlock, and my local phone shop is trying to find the original carrier to unlock it but we can’t find it cuz it was supposed to be unlocked. How would I be able to contact the carrier if I already switched to a new carrier and got a new phone ? Is there anyway I can get the carrier lock off. I just bought this phone from a friend and they said that they left the carrier so is there anyway to

You need to insert a SIM from her carrier or contact the carrier to enable the eSIM.
