Why won't itunes show my ipod classic?
[Re-Titled by Moderator]
I don't believe so. I have a Dell Inspiron 15-3567 (which means it came with all of the lovely Dell bloatware, including McAfee - but I uninstalled it, though there appear to be files left over). I thought that might be the case, but when I checked it just appears to be Windows Security stuff.
Made sure on the most recent install to right-click and Run as Administrator as well, per your recommendation listed in DOC-6562. Oh, regarding the iCloud Control Panel, is that just the iCloud app? It doesn't appear to have been loaded in the most recent reinstall, though when I tried clicking the link, it just takes me to a page telling me to get it from the Windows Store.
(I'm running Win10 Home 21H1, so I'm guessing the link to download from Apple doesn't apply, as it explicitly states it's for Win7 & Win8?) Is iCloud necessary; will it help; will it not work due to not having installed iTunes from the Windows store? I noticed when I previously tried installing iTunes via the Windows store and then ran diagnostics, I only received two as opposed to three errors, for what that's worth...
Something else weird in my case I noticed was in the Uninstall portion of the instructions in DOC-6562, the last apps, the "Apple Application Support" ones. I'm running 64 bit, but never has that app (nor the 32 bit one) appeared for me to be able to uninstall.
Wondering if at this point I need to try uninstalling the current version of iTunes and try reinstalling an older version...?
Thanks for your continued help; I sure wish my situation weren't such a pain.
I suggest you install iTunes 12.6.5.3, then shift-start-iTunes at first launch to connect to a new temporary library. Check to see if you have access to the iPod, then install the current version and reconnect to your main library. See if you still have access to the iPod. Apple Application Support is/was a common library component used by various apps for Windows. It seems the latest versions of iTunes for Windows no longer use it. iCloud for Windows isn't a component of iTunes, it is installed separately if you want it.

See if this document helps:

After installing iTunes 12.6.5.3 (64 bit) and shift-starting to create a new, temp library, and then connecting the iPod, iTunes still didn't recognize it. However, we're now down to just one (albeit the most important) failure according to its diagnostics:
I just had a thought - I had (and originally had formatted) the iPod prior to getting Win10 (64 bit); previously I had been using an earlier version of 32 bit Windows. Might this have something to do with the problem? If so, what next?
**Edit**
I just happened to put the iPod into Disk Mode after having disconnecting it and closing iTunes, then reconnected it, and it automatically opened iTunes - and iTunes seemed to recognize it. What the...?
Hi tt2 - I followed the instructions and eventually the iPod connected to iTunes and showed on the desktop - updated the OS for the iPod and started downloading songs.
,
Unfortunately it kept crashing whilst attempting to upload songs - frequently requests update to OS, which I do.
I am now adding songs in smaller batches to see if this helps.
Thanks for your support.
Hi tt2,
I've been having similar problems and have already tried scouring the various articles to no avail.
A curious difference in my case is that I can't find such a folder in Step #9; I've checked both regular Program Files as well as (86), but neither contains a subfolder "Apple" anywhere - let alone the subfolders that follow - and it doesn't appear that reinstalling iTunes has recreated it. Any idea how to get it to appear?
I've tried uninstalling/downloading both from the Windows store as well as from the Apple website directly, and have even tried following your steps in DOC-6562 including deleting any & all Apple-related folders.
I also stumped Apple Tech support after having been on the phone with them for about an hour.
When I've run diagnostics|connectivity tests within iTunes, it keeps displaying "iPod support service is not installed" and "No iPod, iPhone, or iPad found". Clicking the "Help" box next to either isn't helpful. Most recently I've downloaded & installed iTunes from the Windows store.
My PC recognizes when my iPod Classic is connected to it; it's just iTunes that doesn't. Oddly enough the iPod itself reads "Connected" as well as "Eject before disconnecting" despite my being unable to do so. Have also tried putting the iPod in Disk Mode before connecting to the computer; doesn't make a difference.
Any suggestions for me? After trying to work on this off and on all day I'm starting to get a bit frustrated.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
The folder should be there if you've installed iTunes with an iTunes64Setup.exe downloaded from apple.com.
The iPod recognizes when it is connected. It is expecting to get an eject signal from the computer when it will display OK to disconnect, and then revert to its normal menu.

So aside from the weirdness I added in the edit of my previous reply, upon proceeding I'm now back to same prior three errors when running diagnostics.
I attempted checking for updates within 12.6.5.3 only to get the message that it was the current up-to-date version. After which I installed the latest version (12.11.3.17) without uninstalling 12.6.5.3 first, reconnected to my main library, and no longer had access to the iPod. I tried connecting it in normal mode as well as in disk mode, both ways with iTunes open first or not.

You should probably restore the iPod while connected to iTunes 12.6.5.3.

I may try this later, but for now I'm happy that rolling iTunes back to 12.6.5.3 enabled me to get my CD onto my iPod. Thanks again, tt2! I guess the answer for those of us with iPod Classics is to just go back to a version of iTunes that still supported them, heh.
The document was of no help. 160gb classic in disk mode does not show in itunes - yes it's updated to 12.8. Would like to have Classic back to standard iPod playing music!
Try iOS device not showing in iTunes for Windows - Apple Community. Despite the title the same steps may help. When the device is in disk mode does it show in Windows Explorer?

I uninstalled the Windows store version and reinstalled the apple.com one, and the folders are there now.
Still getting the same error types though.
Do you have any third party anti-virus software? When installing iTunes it may help to right-click the installer and use Run as Administrator.
