I followed the directions at add apps to my Apple CarPlay but the add apps button at the bottom of the app is not

It sounds like you're having an issue with CarPlay, and adding additional apps. We can understand wanting to get that resolved. We want to help.
CarPlay has some additional available apps which started with iOS 14, one being News+. You can read more here: CarPlay Overview
