Will this work on my new 2021 M1 24" Mac? It does not specify that it is compatible in the "Compatibility" section of the information about the Apple USB SuperDrive. Thanks!
In your preferences, cd/dvd be sure "open DVD player" is noted when inserting a DVD movie. Then when you insert the Movie the player will open automatically. You do not need to look for the player file.
DVD player is alive and well. You simply need to search for "DVD player" using Spotlight.

But is there software on macOS to play a DVD? DVD player no longer exists... (asking for my dad; I can't test)
