How to detect a phishing attempt email?

I just received this email. Is it a scam or phishing?

It is a phishing attempt. Do not respond. Do not divulge any personal or financial information. You can use the address below to forward the suspect email message, as an attachment to Apple.


reportphishing@apple.com


If you provided your Apple ID and password at the bogus site, change your password immediately.

This is a scam. Please forward the email to reportphishing@apple.com, do not click any links in the email.


Apple would never threaten to lock your account permanently, the poor grammar in the email is another sign that this is not a genuine email from Apple.
