when i play some albums i look at the file of a song and it says 'stream' not lossless.the lossless icon is on the album under the title but it doesn't play lossless.anyone else come across this problem? (m1 iMac into an ifi zen dac)

How are you determining that lossless isn't actually playing? The differences can be subtle if you're not using the best equipment available. If you're sure that Apple Music is not playing lossless track, be sure to check out this article: About lossless audio in Apple Music That article goes over the basics of listening to lossless music on your Mac, specifically, so it should definitely help. You can scroll down about halfway to the section titled "How to listen to lossless on your Mac".

One thing that is important to note is that not all songs on Apple Music are going to be available in lossless format. If you don't see the lossless badge then that particular song will not stream in lossless quality. As for the DAC issue you mentioned, it may be something leave feedback about: Product Feedback

As I mentioned at the end of my message earlier I’m playing Apple Music on an M1 iMac into an ifi zen dac with a set of beyerdynamic dr990 pro headphones.50% of the music I play on Apple Music plays normally with the exact format labeled beside the title of the song and the other 50% has no format label and when I look at the info/file it just says ‘stream’ and sounds terrible.
Another problem with the iMac and using a dac for streaming Apple Music is you have to manually change the output depending on the exact format of each song in the midi output of the Imac.all seems very messy at the moment.maybe an update will fix the issue but very disappointing at the moment.
Apple music does play fine on my iPhone
Hi Judy yes I realize not all music is lossless just yet but the music I’m having problems streaming is actually labeled lossless.it’s happened with a good few I’ve tried.must be a software issue with the iMac because like I said the music app on iPhone 11 Pro runs really well.
strange that the only app that gives me trouble on the iMac would turn out to be apple mysic.anyway thank you for your time.I left product feedback.I’m sure it will get fixed in time.love everything else about the M1 iMac
Thanks.I did try adding a couple of the albums I was looking for in lossless to my library and download them to see if that would work but it didn’t.same result.
I just think the music app on the iMac stilll needs work.the app on my iPhone runs really well
I’m also experiencing similar problems on a brand new AppleTV 4K (1st Generation). Some titles labeled lossless stream without a problem and really sound great. Others labeled lossless don’t seem to stream. Yet if I turn lossless off, the same track streams without a problem.
I also tried AirPlay from the phone, but it appears to switch over to streaming directly from the internet on the Apple TV and I have to use the TV remote to pause it on the tv as the controls on the phone stop working.
Some albums on apple music are labelled lossless but don't stream in high res.?
