where are recent photos on iPhone backed up on mac

I am trying to back up my recent photos on iPhone onto my mac. I am not using iCloud. How and where are the photos stored on the Mac.

There are 3 ways of backing up things, 2 of them use iCloud, an iPhone and a computer option, and with this method not everything is backed up, it's just a matter of the amount of data that would have to be transferred and also the amount of storage you have in iCloud. A free account has only 5GB of storage and that is nowadays insufficient for a proper backup.

Also with this option it is expected that users have another method that would backup everything or, in case of photos, that they use iCloud Photo Library. Anyway, if your photo library is larger than 5GB, they also won't be completely sent to iCloud due to lack of space.

That leads us to the last option, the computer one, which backs up pretty much everything on the phone to the computer.
