Use a New App Password:
Do you use an App Password? If so, try a new App Password. Sometime changes (i.e. updates) are made to the Mac, and then mail server syncing becomes an issue (which is what a new App Password it intended for). I have the same question, but this answer doesn’t help me at all. I need to be able to send mail. I have not changed anything, and could send mail before I went to bed last night. But this morning, I’m getting the error message that either my ID or password is incorrect. What is this and how do I fix it?

Account:
Remove the eMail account, and then add it back. All needs to resync cleanly.

Ask AOL:
Contact the eMail provider (AOL) and ask what has happened. If you have installed some updates, then it may need to resync, and AOL has yet to do their part in this. Start Here: https://help.aol.com/contact
