Restoring Apple TV Generation 2

Hi,

I've recieved a GEN 2 Apple TV from my friend- it seems to need to be restored. I have the HDMI and power cable, but it needs a different hook up to USB?

Is that a specific cable?

Argh! help?

thanks

Please remember an Apple TV 2nd generation is extremely old and very limited and has been obsolete for many years. However, you can try the steps in https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202118

If you can still access the menus, then you can reset as linked above.

Else you may need to restore through a computer. Use a USB cable with Micro-USB connector one the end that plugs into the Apple TV. Make sure the cable supports data transfer (cables bundled with other devices might support charging only).

On a Mac with Majova or earlier, or on a PC, use the iTunes application.

On a Mac with Catalina or later, use the sidebar of a Finder window.

Unlike later models, the Apple TV (2nd generation) shouldn’t be powered during the restore procedure.
