A query about accuracy of Apple Watch distance measurements.

I am new to Apple Watch (a 6SE) and I am using it to track a walk I take each day. I believe this is close to 1 KM, though this is simply what Google Maps tells me! The actual figure I get from the Workout App have varied between 1 and 1.2 KM. Is this level of variation expected? Or am I doing something wrong?

(I am aware I should be taking longer walks but I do have a disability!)

Are you taking your iPhone with you? And is this the GPS only or cellular model?

In any case, I highly recommend the calibration as well:

I have been trying out both using my watch over a short walk (around one block). Recently I have left my phone home for this test. The results are still rather inconstant - the last 4 days I got 0.74KM, 0.8KM, 0.76KM and 0.9KM. Previously I tried with my iPhone on and the results were even more scattered. What I want to know is this variation is normal or if my watch GPS is faulty!

I am going to do another few days with the iPhone with me. But there is nothing special about the block I am walking around. No tall buildings, mainly single story houses. Plenty of trees along the way.

I would be interested if any others out there have got similar variations. I may just have to live with this. Convincing Apple that the GPS on my watch is not accurate is unlikely to be easy.
