iPhone speaker volume low on calls

I can barely hear the phone conversation and I cannot increase the volume as I use to...Is this due to the latest software upgrade as I do not like having to use the speaker option every time.

What happens if you adjust the volume using the side buttons while on a call? The earpiece volume can only be adjusted while you are on a call.

If that doesn't make a difference, the speaker in the earpiece may be bad.

LowVolumeCallHearingProblem,

Thanks for providing us with those details. Do you have a case on your iPhone? If so, please remove the case and test the behavior again.

To ensure that we’re covering all of our bases, we have some steps that we'd like for you to perform on your device:

• Set the Ring/Silent switch to ring.

Go to Settings > Accessibility.

Tap Audio/Visual.

Slide the audio volume balance slider all the way to the right.

Go to Settings > Sound & Haptics > Ringtone.

Tap on a ringtone to play it.

Listen to the sound from the receiver.

• Repeat the steps above, changing the audio volume balance slider to the left instead. Next, listen to the device speaker this time instead of the receiver. Does any sound play or is the sound distorted or muffled?

• Do you have Wi-Fi calling or VoLTE enabled? If so, try turning off these features to see if that helps.

We hope to hear from you shortly!

Hello LowVolumeCallHearingProblem,

That’s not the type of experience that we’d like for you to have after completing the software update. We’ll do our best to assist you with getting the sound working properly on your iPhone. We noticed that you were reviewing, "If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker." By chance were you able to complete the steps? If so, does the issue persist?

If so, please provide us with the following details:

• Does this issue occur while listening to music as well or just on phone calls?

• What happens when you make a FaceTime call?

• When using an external accessory, such as EarPods or headphones does the same issue occur?

Having this information allows us to further isolate the issue. We look forward to hearing back from you soon!

To be sure we're on the correct path, do you have Wi-Falling Calling or VoLTE enabled? If so, does the issue persist when turning off these features? Also, does this issue occur while in multiple locations or one in particular?

Wi-Fi Calling or VoLTE is not enabled. The low volume on calls is alway low, does not matter where I am located.

If so, please provide us with the following details:

• Does this issue occur while listening to music as well or just on phone calls? Just on Phone Calls

• What happens when you make a FaceTime call? The Volume is perfect

• When using an external accessory, such as Ear Pods or headphones does the same issue occur? Nope, wearing headphones or EarPods, the sound is perfectly clear. Only low volume when I receive or make a normal phone call.
