I had a previous apple ID that I no longer have access to.
I had a previous user ID which was an email address that I no longer have access to. I purchased a number of songs on Itunes with that user name. How can I retrieve those previous purchase

You can do an email address change on that ID to get a working email address on the ID. Note the restrictions in the article.

You can the sign into iTunes or Music to download your songs agin.
