Brand new iPad Pro is stuck on 'Install Now'

My brand new iPad Pro is stuck on 'Install Now'.

Following Apples procedures, I brought my old iPad near the new iPad to transfer everything over. But first, it said it needed to do a software update. I pressed OK and now it appears to be stuck on 'Install Now'. I find it interesting that it does NOT say 'Installing Now'. 'Install Now' gives the impression that I needed to tap on that in order for it to proceed, but tapping on this does nothing.

Directly above it says "More Information" pressing on this also does nothing.

I would restart the iPad Pro. It’s not going to hurt anything at this point. If a conventional restart doesn’t work, try a forced restart. You have been around for a while so I assume you know both procedures.

FWIW, I had to restart my daughter’s iPad Air 4th generation a couple of time when things got stuck during set up. No harm was done and everything transferred when I restored her backup.

Thank you for helping me. I discovered elsewhere that the iPad to iPad transfer mode is not very reliable. I made a back up onto my Mac Pro of my old iPad and then restored that to the new one. That went fairly smoothly. Although, I did have to tell the installation that I did not want two-factor authentication about 5 times.

$2200 for this new iPad Pro and NO 3.5mm jack. I had to buy various dongle's and adapters so I can use a wired headphone and charge at the same time. It looks like the Lightning cable is being phased out. I'm off to the Verizon store tomorrow to get the cellular activated.

As you know, the data on an iPhone or iPad is well encrypted. However, your iCloud back ups are NOT encrypted at all. And over the years, many have gained access to peoples data. Only back up your iOS devices to a Mac. That way your devices are encrypted and so are the back ups.

Interesting, however, unless I am reading this incorrectly, according to Apple iCloud backups are encrypted.

I still backup with iTunes and iCloud, but my daughter had abandoned iTunes backups some time ago.

Unless someone is very sloppy with passwords I don't think that 2FA is worth the additional hassle. I know people who were completely locked out of their iPhone because they did not have another device to authenticate.

I have seen numerous threads here about users getting hosed by 2FA because they only had one Apple device. Like I said, I have four of them so that’s not a big issue with me. Believe me, I resisted for years before finally caving to 2FA, but it really hasn’t been an issue.

My other problem with it 2FA is that it cannot be turned off unless you are a "bad boy". Generally, I find it's always a good idea not to start something that can never be stopped.

I have no clue what you mean about being a “bad boy” 😎😈

I had to do likewise with my daughter’s iPad. Quick Start wasn’t very reliable, so I kept restarting and eventually just chose to restore the backup. Oddly enough, I could not get around using 2FA for her. I could not use her iCloud backup without accepting 2FA. I have been using 2FA for a couple of years now and it’s not as bad as I thought it would be, but it helps to have multiple devices and multiple phone numbers associated with your Apple ID so that you can get codes any number of ways.

Apple cannot resist updating their cables and ports for all their devices and they think everybody on Earth wants to go wireless anyway.

I'm glad to hear that you got everything worked out. Enjoy your new iPad Pro!
