MacBook Air M1 keyboard backlight

Is the auto brightness for the keyboard light supposed to turn it off when I'm in a low light setting? On the MacBook Air 2020 (before the M1) the keyboard light would get brighter and darker, but would never cut completely off in low light setting. On the M1 it shuts all the way off. Am I doing something wrong? It's kind of strange that it would cut completely off in low light, because that's usually when the keyboard light is needed. Is turning off the auto brightness the only way to keep the keyboard light on in low settings?

Hello HarlemSzPrinceSz10,

Thanks for reaching out to us in Apple Support Communities about adjusting the backlight on your keyboard, we're happy to help by looking into this more!

The following support article provides some troubleshooting steps to try for this behavior:

Turn your Mac keyboard’s backlighting on or off

Specifically, pay attention that nothing is covering the camera area on your MacBook Air as this is where the light sensor is located.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards.
