Preview pane in email- no longer showing
I had set the preview pane for 3 lines, long time ago, but not able to show it now. Instructions under "viewing" don't do it.

Got it! At first I didn't know what you meant by "lower resolution on the Display" - but if you meant to allow only 5 or 6 messages, for example, instead of 20 (using the full screen), then it worked. The preview pane doesn't work if I've already filled the screen with the full number of 'headers' - there's no space left on my screen for preview! Duh. (if all that makes any sense to you at all!). THANKS! Appreciate your help!

Yes, +1 to what BDAqua posted.
See also: Mail > Preferences > Viewing... then the top item > "List preview:"
See if there's a tiny gray dot at the bottom of the Mail list that you can drag up.
Yes, I’m aware of that dot. It doesn’t work. It used to but not now.
It can be a bugger to grab or drag in some circumstances, try a lower resolution on the Display for a test.
Great to hear, good work, take care my friend my friend. :)
