There are some articles that may offer helpful hints at cure or troubleshooting:

• If your built-in camera isn't working on your Mac - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211130

Should your Mac have the new M1 chip, not Intel-based CPU, then an SMC reset

won't work. ~ [However if your Mac is 'Intel-based' older series, try the SMC reset.]

• How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support (intel-based Mac)

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

This, a hardware reset, involves power management; w/ certain effects.

Instructions in above can be confusing, due to several build 'Intel-based'

Macs; using either T2 chip, or some not. ~These do not have M1 Silicon.

(Note: NVRAM/PRAM reset instructions work w/ Intel-based Macs) Not M1.

This may also help certain items whose functions appear to fail; as part of

the overall troubleshooting effort. Blue-text links this support article.

Sometimes, the use of 'Safe mode' can help; either to troubleshoot, or

may resolve the issue. Follow instructions.

• How to use Safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Several things are different in the newest M1 Apple Silicon Mac series.

• Use macOS Recovery on a Mac with Apple Silicon - Apple Support*

https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/macos-recovery-a-mac-apple-silicon-mchl82829c17/11.0/mac/11.0

*This includes various 'Silicon instructions' and a key to M1 access, to use them on startup.

[No need -- if your Mac is of older 'Intel-based' hardware; follow the breadcrumbs.]
