Do I need SIM card in new ipad to receive emails?

Depends.

If you always want email and Internet access anywhere, all the time, then you would need an iPad with both WiFi + cellular data access using a SIM card with a monthly cellular data plan.


If you do not care about having email and Internet access everywhere, all the time, then you can access your email via a home wireless WIFi network ( with MODEM/wirless WiFi router box ) and Internet service provider and monthly access plan and only be able to access email and Internet from home or from locations that offer free, public WiFi networks.
