Super slow startup and other problems

Hi Experts!

My Macbook Pro suddenly is startning VERY slow (sometimes hangs) and apps are starting up slow (or not starting) too. Also my Bluetooth sometimes is unusable (squiggly line through top right icon), and the wifi sometimes doesn't work well or connect at all.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)

High Sierra

I know its getting old but I thought a restore or factory reset might fix things for a while until I upgrade to a new device.

Any thoughts, ideas, fixes or remedies?

Thanks

1. Reset PRAM:  Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

Settings that can be stored in NVRAM include sound volume, display resolution, startup-disk selection, time zone,

     and recent kernel panic information.

The settings stored in NVRAM  depend on your Mac and the devices that you're using with your Mac.

3. Startup in Safe mode. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201262 Choose the appropriate method.

To leave Safe Mode, choose “Restart” at the bottom.

Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software when it starts up, including login items,

system extensions not required by macOS,

and fonts not installed by macOS. It  also does a basic check of your startup disk,

similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility

And it deletes some system caches, including font caches and the kernel cache,

which will be created again automatically as needed.

Maybe Upgrade:

All computers are bound to go dead over time - that's without a doubt. So, maybe you should take this as a good reason to upgrade to a new computer. A Factory Reset, indeed, seems the way to go. But, that would be a last resort.

Thanks dominic23

I tried all of those things and there was no change.

It takes AGES for for computer to startup and load security software, VPN & initial startup of browser and other apps.

I also tried "first aid" on all volumes with Disk Utility and nothing happened there either. Disk Utility looks as though its telling me my Startup disk of full.

This all started happening quite suddenly and I can't identify again causes.

1) Most times my computer will NOT recognize and load the external drive I am using for Time Machine. If/When it does, should I restore to an earlier date? Would that help?

2) Could I do a factory reset then reload my files with Time Machine?

Thanks again
