sharing browser history

Part of our home computer system is imac catalina 10.15.5 and an ipad 14.4. For some reason the Safari browser histories are shared between the 2 systems The ipad is used to make dozens of word finder searches to help in words with friends. The Imac history is just filled with these searches making it hard to search the actual search history of the imac itself. FYI The ipad also sees all the safari browser activity of the Imac. Other fact is we use only a single email address for our family.

From what we understand, both your iMac and iPad are sharing Safari browser information and you're wanting to stop it. It sounds like Safari is enabled in iCloud preferences. This would be expected if both the iMac and the iPad are using the same Apple ID. Disabling Safari in iCloud settings on both devices should stop the information being shared.

To disable on your iMac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Apple ID. > iCloud. Make sure Safari is unchecked. On the iPad, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud, and make sure Safari is disabled.
