ipad a2270 won't display pairing input screen

I bought a Logitech Slim Folio Keyboard.

The instructions indicate:

1 - pull paper tab to connect batteries

2 - insert ipad in keyboard tray (note: here I assume that the ipad should be turned "on" and Bluetooth selected "on")

3 - flip up ipad and insert edge in magnetic strip (thus turning "on" the keyboard). Pairing code is displayed in a pop-up.

4 - press and hold the Bluetooth button on the keyboard (2 secs recommended). Green indicator on the keyboard flashes white.

5- Input the pairing code to the input screen that, presumably, should show up about now.

  • Problem is that the input screen with the six code input boxes does not show up. Only choice is at the bottom of the pairing code screen that allows you to "Cancel".

  • Note: Bluetooth is working because earbuds connect with no problem. However, the earbuds do not require a pairing code.

Any ideas as to how to get the pairing code input screen?

iPad, iPadOS 14
