iPad and iPhone

I have an account with Verizon and I purchased an iPad. The iPad was assigned a phone number and I UNDERSTAND that it’s not used for making and receiving calls…my issue is that once I put the iPad on my iCloud, I began receiving text messages to my iPhone and iPad. I don’t want that to happen. I’ve turned off iMessage and FaceTime on my iPad and I’m still getting iMessages. I have a MacBook and an iMac as well and I don’t have that issue with either of those devices. Is there anyway possible to completely prevent my iPad from receiving messages that my iPhone is getting?

Messages sent to your iPhone are mirrored on your other devices sharing the same Apple ID, when Continuity is enabled.

If you do not want these messages to appear on other devices, disable text message forwarding.
