Active Directory

Hello,

Is Active Directory so embedded in MacOS, that deleting it on your Home Computer would make the OS unusable? I'm so sick and tired of people adding or changing Active Directory on my Mac though the ISP's provided Router, I don't want to use it at all.

I don't have 200,000 users. I don't need my Mac to interact with a Windows PC, LINUX, or any other operating Network or system on the planet. HTML, HTML5, Java Script, Python, Ruby, and all the other programming languages make life Impossible to maintain control of your own life. Apple needs to understand, NOT everyone needs these extra features to use the Internet.

The Biggest challenge should be on Personal Security and Network Security. These features I totally understand. However, forcing the average Consumer to put up with things they don't need, is really over stepping things. If a Company wants or Needs Active Directory, include it in their Orders or make it available for download. The same approach could be taken for many of the other overhead software which uses up disk space, slows down your Computer and produces excessive heat on the device.

I never had Active Directory on my 2012 MacBook Pro until one day it suddenly appeared using the JHFS+ FS. Now I'm using APFS and it's still there. I don't use or need Open Directory, but I have to admit, II don't know a lot about it. Java Script is used excessively on websites, so I understand this.

Am I stuck with what Apple forces you to have on their Computers?

Look at your >System Preferences> Do you have any 'Profiles' listed

Profiles: An XML file that pushes settings and commands to a Mac. Includes things like restricting what passwords can be used, can install printers and fonts, deploy Wi-Fi networks (including 802.1x), and can join a Mac to an Active Directory domain.

NOTE: I have never used Active Directory. I even work for a company that has both Windows and Macs, where the Windows systems use Active Directory, but the Macs do not.

So Active Directory is not a requirement for Macs, thus it must have somehow been enabled on your system.

I would suggest following all the suggestions leroydouglas is suggesting, as your situation is not normal.

?

Did you buy this Mac new?

Use spotlight to search for "Directory Utility app "

Open this and see if it set up.

Is this a personal machine or a business machine ?

You will need to contact the owner/admin to update/upgrade or de-provision the device.
