computer restarting every 5-7 days

5K 27" iMac Late 2015, kept up to date on everything. Thunderbolt monitor + a bunch of external drives.

Last year or so, my iMac has started rebooting for no apparent (to me) reason. I think mostly after update to the last OSX.

I don't have any specific programs running, no real drain on the system. I get up in the morning and I have to log in and the computer has had a kernal panic or something to that effect. This is happening about once a week.

Here is the first portion of what the report sent to Apple says:

Any idea what might be causing this or what I might be able to do to help prevent this?

Thanks!

Maybe something to do with those things? I had a similar problem with crashes once a week and it turned out to be a particular older application I tended to leave running 24/7. I changed to only using it when I needed to and the crashes stopped.

See the tips in the link below, particularly about running in Safe Mode. However, Safe Mode disables a lot of things and is trying on the patience if you only have crashes once a week so you may instead want to check your software and if you have old items.

If your Mac spontaneously restarts or displays a message that it restarted or shut down because of a problem, click here --> https://support.apple.com/HT200553

There can be other reasons for crashes but if it typically happens with those kexts then look for the application that is using them and see if there are updates.
