"Tag" Cell Type in Numbers

Is there a way to have a column function as a "tag" cell type? The ideal would be for the cell data to function much as the "tag" data functions in many apps, including the Finder:

  • Enter some text
  • Auto-complete recognizes related tags and shows a list
  • Pick from the list and hit "Enter," which transforms the data into a piece of information that is independent of other text entered in the cell
  • Enter some more text in the same cell and it is treated as a discrete tag in the same cell
  • Repeat with as many tags as desired

Is this possible? It would really speed up my workflow! I'd love to have one column that where I could input any number of different tags, or pieces of data, that would allow me to sort by that tag.

Thanks!

If you wanted just one tag per cell, you could easily do it with a popup menu with items names like Red, Green, Blue, etc. Multiple tags could be done in a single popup if there are a very small number of tag names. Red, Red Green, Red Blue, Red Green Blue, Green, Green Blue, Blue. That would get out of hand pretty quickly, though. You could filter to show only the cells with the tags you want to see. You could sort it, too (alphabetically).

Or you could use several columns of checkboxes. One column for Red, one for Green, etc. You can filter and/or sort by any of those columns.
