Why is it that iCloud storage is paid monthly even though there is more space to be use?

iCloud Storage is Apple's monthly cloud storage service, you are not buying the storage permanently. Each month you continue to pay, you continue to use the storage, the amount of storage you use under 50GB is irrelevant to this, but if you are using 5GB or less, you might want to switch to the free plan.
