My outlook will not accept my iCloud password

You may need to enable 2 Factor Authentication on your Apple ID and create an app specific password to use. If your account won’t allow 2 Factor Authentication, try 2 Step Verification.

I'm trying to reset my outlook on a laptop. I've checked the settings are the same as my desktop which works on my icloud email account but I can't make it work.

I have 2 factor authentication enabled but my app specific password won't work. I get a message "unable to log on to the incoming(IMAP) server. Please check your email address and password and try again.

Also, when I look at the password in settings, it's not the one I've pasted in there but a very long one. I've unchecked save password, but it still reverts to the wrong one when I look at it again.
