Is it better to leave the battery charging all the time?

Leaving your laptop on charge all the time is kinda the definition of a desktop Mac. You can't go anywhere with it.

No, leaving it on the charger won't hurt it. But don't pretend you're tethered to an outlet. Use the MacBook as it was designed, as a mobile computer. Unplug and use it for a few hours here and there. Plug it in when it's convenient.
