Safari, Google Chrome and background programs...

I use both Safari and Google Chrome for my internet access, and I have been having issues with an "aw snap!" error on Google Chrome, which is apparently rather common. It has been suggested that I do a clean boot to check if there is some program running in the background. can any of you offer suggestions about how to a) checking programs that might be running that I didn't install? I looked any my apps and deleted any that I don't use but there were many that I couldn't delete.; b) allow pop ups on Safari (for some websites), and c) fix my Google Chrome settings? I have restarted, uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome, and accessed it fine on other devices.

THANKS!

Are you using Google Chrome with a user profile that is synced? i.e. backed up in Google's cloud?

You can delete Chrome again but there's left over things you may need to also delete to start fresh.

In Finder click the Go menu and Go to Folder and enter:

~/Library/Application Support/Google/

Click Go, then Delete the Chrome folder.

Re-install Google Chrome, sign-in to your Google account, give it a few minutes to sync. If that solves your problem then you had a corrupted user profile and since you haven't had issues on the other devices it should now be resolved.

I would delete the entire profile and recreate it by signing on with your Google account. Providing you have been doing that all your settings, bookmarks, extensions, data are in the Google account in the cloud. So when you re-install and sign-in to your Google account everything will re-appear. The profile will be recreated.

If the problem re-occurs then you can try disabling extensions or it's bad code on a website your frequent.
