USB accessory unlock iPad to use accessories

First, your iPad has a security feature that intentionally disables connection to USB devices after the iPad has been sleeping for a short period. This is intended to prevent exfiltration of data when the iPad is locked.

Whilst not recommended, you can disable this security feature by turning-on “USB Devices” in iPad settings:

Settings > TouchID | FaceID & Passcode > [Allow Access When Locked] USB Devices - set to ON

The above image shows the most secure (recommended) setting - OFF - which disables USB access when the iPad is locked.
