Can't get Apple's Bluetooth drivers installed (Win 10 / Boot Camp)

I'm on a 2017 MacBook Pro, running Windows 10 1809 (for eGPU compatibility).

The Microsoft BT drivers are installed, and I am able to choose the Apple one(s) instead, but then I get an error type 10 on the device.

Furthurmore, I can't seem to completely remove the Microsoft drivers using pnputil, since pnputil -e doesn't list a published name for the drivers I'm looking for.

How can I get the Apple BT drivers in control so that I can use BT devices with my Mac when booted into BootCamp?

Fro this device, look at https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=PCI%5cVEN_14E4%26DEV_43BA. The 7.7.119.0 driver dated 20th Apr 2020 should be installed. Is this the currently running driver for the Wireless adapter. The corresponding BT driver should be based on the W10 1809 should be the 17763 series as noted in https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/release-information. Are these two drivers what you currently have?

  • What is the current macOS version?
  • Was the Mouse paired to macOS and used when Windows was being installed?

Also, see https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/dual-booting-windows-7-mac-mountain-lion-with-both-magic-trackpad-and-magic-mouse-bluetooth-se.72201/ for an explanation of Link keys. It is an older article, but it can help you verify the contents of the Windows Registry.

There is another older article - Dual pairing in OS X and Windows - Apple Community - which is worth a read.

I haven't been able to pair anything in Windows. The one other thing I tried is an Ultimate Ears Boom 3 wireless speaker.

Re pairing, my MX Master 3 has three devices it can pair with and a toggle switch. I switched to 2 or 3 to pair it with Windows since those are 'empty', so that should emulate the de-pairing with macOS and re-pairing with Windows.

Does the mouse work when you switch to 2/3rd pairing option? Such pairings are typically used for multiple devices, not to the same device. For example, if you have three computers and want to use the same mouse with all three, the mouse should generate BT Link keys based on the BT address of the paired device and mouse. Normally, a BT mouse paired to macOS should not require a re-pairing on the Windows side.

I think I explained it badly.

My MX Master is paired with macOS on pairing #1. #2 and #3 are unused.

So in my testing, I switched to #2 on the mouse and tried pairing that. That was in lieu of un-pairing with macOS since there was no need, since my #2 and #3 slots on the mouse were not paired.

Your comment about not needing to re-pair with Windows is really interesting -- I didn't realize it was based on the machine or maybe a BT MAC or something like that, versus some keys generated in the OS itself. So I'll go back to macOS, un-pair, come back into Windows and see if I can pair it. Not hopeful since the Boom 3 didn't work, but it's worth a shot.
