Malware

For a while now, Norton 360 tells me that a program named "p" is trying to access the internet. I've blocked it, but keep the option for Norton to inform me when it happens again. The file, which seems to be a unix script, appears in "Macintosh HD/private/tmp" but under a long folder name that seems to consist of hex digits, under which there is a folder with a one- or two-digit decimal name and under that another hex folder name. Then "p." I've seen the "p" file disappear as I navigated to it. There other such folders, sometimes up to six or seven. They will be timestamped right before Norton makes me aware of them. I've been deleting all of these. My concern is that I have some kind of infection that is trying to send data from my hard drive or key strokes off site. Can anyone tell me whether these are normal temporary files created by a legitimate process or if I should be alarmed?

Thanks,

Jim
