Hi, azlimb,

Might be a corrupt preference causing the problem. Try deleting preferences. Open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your projects.

Also, confirm that your Photos library is selected as the system photo library in the Photos app General preferences. If the box that says "use as system photo library" is grayed out, that means that it has already been designated as your system photos library.

If no luck, try creating a different project and see if it works. Open iMovie in a new or different library and see if any difference.

Another thing to try is to close iMovie and the Photos app, and then open the photos app and iMovie in that order to see if you can trigger recognition.

As a workaround, you can open your Photos app library and drag your video clip directly into iMovie.
