iPad is frozen and won't update or restore

I went through the steps to update, and when that failed, to restore the iPad and it said an unknown error 4010 occurred.

Whilst this support page does not explicitly refer to error #4010, Apple Support are known to recommended its guidance:

If you see error 9, 4005, 4013 or 4014 when you restore your iOS device – Apple Support
