6th generation iPad no longer plays sounds?
I assume then that you checked to make sure Do Not Disturb is not enabled, that you checked the sound settings, tried restarting your iPad and tried a forced restart.
If you haven’t tried a forced restart, give it a try. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo on the screen. Once you see the Apple logo, let go of the buttons and let the iPad fully reboot.

Stumbled onto the solution but I Got it❗️Went to "Accessibility", to "Spoken Content", to "Speak Screen" which told me to swipe down with two fingers from the top of the screen to hear the content of the screen. VOILA😄
Try swiping down from the upper right corner of the screen to get to the control center. If the bell icon is red, tap on it and that will turn Silent Mode off.
