Earbuds causing echoing for OTHER person

So I have a pair of Sony Bluetooth earbuds with my iPhone XR and whenever I’m on phone calls USING the earbuds, the other person keeps complaining that they can hear their own echo, but everything sounds perfect on my end. As soon as I take it OFF Bluetooth (disengaging my earbuds) the audio is fine for them using speaker or earpiece.

I know some products can cause echoing for the user wearing the device but I’ve never heard of products causing echoing for the OTHER person on the call.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Anybody have advice on how to fix it?

thanks

Hi there bergnside,

Thanks for your post to Apple Support Communities about your Bluetooth accessory echoing while on phone calls using your iPhone. To help rule out what the underlying cause might be, we'd first recommend testing any other Bluetooth accessory to see if an echo is still present.

Next, test a pair of Apple EarPods to determine if the issue is Bluetooth related or with phone calls on your iPhone. Check for any updates for your iOS, apps, and if the earbud vendor has recommendations for resetting their product or installing an update.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Finally, you could also test those Sony earbuds with another iPhone to see how they do. This would confirm if the issue is with them vs. something specific to your iPhone. If you continue to have issues with the echo only using Bluetooth on phone calls report back. We look forward to hearing how it goes.

Have a good day.
