It's 2021, still no selective sync in iCloud?

Scenarios:

I have a personal mac, and I synch to iCloud, it's great. pay for more room, np.

• I have a work Mac, I use the same apple ID, but do NOT want to sync my entire iCloud drive. I just want ONE folder I keep in the iCloud drive.

• On one mac, I don't want ANY files, but I DO want apps that sync their state over iCloud to still function.
