Try restarting your iPhone. After that, start right on the short black line at the bottom of the page, or try starting just slightly off the screen before swiping upwards. All apps still swipe up to close.

You have 5 apps open? Maybe you mean that you have 5 apps that had been open but you swiped them up to get to another app and you are trying to force closed all of the other apps? Swiping up suspends an app and they remain in that suspended state so you can open multi-tasking and access them again or force them closed if there is a problem. I suspect that you are referring to force closing an app? If you could not swipe up to close an app, you would not be able to use your phone. Is this what you are referring to? Swiping up to force close an app is not necessary unless the app is malfunctioning. Swiping upwards from there should be done from the app in the center of the screen if you need to do that rather than the bottom of the screen as I initially told you. You still should not experience the inability to do a force close. I'm not aware of any problems with doing that on any devices, and have not read of anyone else experiencing this issue.

If you need more assistance, please describe exactly what you are trying to do and what happens when you try to swipe upwards. Are you seeing a reduced size image of the app in question?
