The printer driver/installer at the HP support site seems to be relatively old.
To begin with, you could try to reset the printing system and re-add the printer.

Check whether the operating system suggests a suitable driver.
If this does not work, you may want to test the (Post Date: Dec 11, 2020) https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US HP Printer Drivers v5.1 for macOS download from Apple. An HP Color LaserJet 3800 driver version 19.13 is mentioned in the referenced article Printer and scanner drivers for Mac - Apple Support.
Software conflicts cannot be ruled out when testing printer drivers. Make sure that you have multiple backup copies of all important files (documents, photos, et cetera).
