IPhone 3G Software Update Problems - What do we do Apple?

Been having problems with my IPhone 3G ever since i updated the software and finally went into the store today to speak with someone.

Firstly, i was told that the software isn't for the iphone 3G and that it says this in the small print - my question then is why does it prompt you to install the new software?! surely apple are clever enough to make sure it doesn't install new software on phones that are not compatible!?

Second, once I spoke to someone else he advised that it was a common problem and as yet they haven't got a solution?!

So i am just meant to carry on with a substandard product that is continually dropping calls, not allowing me to hang up calls, behaving really slow and interfering with my business?!

They told me a phone restore would help and sent me away, Ive done this twice now and it didn't and it is still playing up. Dont waste your time if they have told you to do that. It doesn't work.

Usually you get great service from apple but they have really dropped the ball... why would they allow for a software update to 3G phones if it slows it down and messes up your product?!

My phone contract is up for renewal next month and was going to get the new iphone 4 despite the problems but may now opt for a Blackberry... NEVER thought i would say that again!

My question is - what is going on with Apple and what do they want us to do?

Iphone 3G, iOS 4

Im sure Apple will be paying close attention to what is being discussed on these forums....

Perhaps Apple have got too big to do what they always used to do best.... give great customer service.

I was shocked by the 'shrugging of shoulders' and the lack of solutions offered at the Liverpool apple store today.

Why should i have to go on to these forums to find answers and a whole raft of people with the same problem?! That is just not right and very poor customer service.

I would be most interested in having somebody point out to me exactly where that is stated in the small print. I'm usually pretty good at reading small print, and I see no such mention.

Did you talk to the store manager of your local store? He's responsible for seeing that the employees give good service.

These forums are like a hospital emergency room. If you went in the ER, you'd think all people were sick when that's just not the case. Millions of people have updated their 3G to iOS4 without issue.

I, too, am curious about where this small print is. If you could point it out to us, that would be terrific.

ahem... over 300,000 views of these problems on just the 3g and 3gs forums suggest this isn't a few isolated ER sickies - it suggests something more akin to a pandemic. Why would you want to play down a REAL problem for MANY people?

It is a real problem for many, and I hope it is resolved quickly.

However, it is no problem for most.

"Why would you want to play down a REAL problem for MANY people?"

There is no reason to play down the real issues. Similarly, there is no need to over react to the issue.

There are real problems for some that need to be resolved.

Is that just a guess, or do you have data to support this statement?

Frankly, I don't believe it to be true.

I have two 3G iphones in the household, and know of another six held by friends & acquaintances. That's a total of eight phones I have seen myself. Of those eight, seven were upgraded to 4.0 and then to 4.0.1 , while the eighth phone was never upgraded beyond 3.1.3. Of the seven phones upgraded, all seven had problems and were ultimately downgraded back to 3.1.3. Yes, we know Apple won't support us, but given the current support they're offering, I doubt we'll notice the difference.

My point is, in my limited "snapshot of users", I am seeing a 100% failure rate on the 4.x upgrade. I think that the majority of upgrade victims, simply don't know about this forum, or don't want to bother with it for any variety of reasons. Hence, the "Most aren't complaining, so we must be doing a good job" mentality of Apple.

How do you know this? Is there data to back it up? Is it because not everyone who owns a 3G has voiced an opinion on the forum? Seems like a very broad statement without data to back it up.

I was with a friend the other night and I mentioned the 3G issue and he said "oh really? my girlfriend has one that she updated and has big problems......" No, she has not been to the forum. Does that mean she's part of the "no problem" category?

Mr. Bill - you're really way out of bounds here. I took the 4.01 software update on the 3GS and have dropped more calls than I can count. I use my phone for business and it is an embarrassment and an outrage to pay so much for so little. AppleCare told me to go to an Apple store and they'll give me a new 3GS with the old software. I guess it's easier and cheaper to give me a new phone than fix the problem.
I was sitting around a table with 2 other AT&T customers with BB's and they both had full signal strength and I had less than 1 bar. This is just a ridiculous situation and I hope Apple loses marketshare for it. You must be drinking some Apple Koolaid to be defending this company. I hate to assume that but it appears true.

So you all are in 'the same boat'? What a shame that you didn't say what specifically are your problems and what y'all have tried already to do about resolving those specific issues - particularly since this is a Support forum where people try to help if they can if they know what you're experiencing in detail.......

You have no profile information that even provides a clue to possible sources of a complete range of issues which have been resolved already...........

Rebsola said: Add 3 more to the 3G upgrades that are having problems. Mine and two of my coworkers all are in the same boat. I can tell you that both of them are not going on forums to announce the problems.

How is someone supposed to help him/her which such an empty post. He/she may as well said me too.
