Suddenly... after update to 14.6 my iPhone will no longer connect to my MacBook Pro (10.15.7). Other than resetting everything... is it the upgrade?

My MacBook Pro suddenly will not recognize or connect to my iPhone OR my iPad. There was an update earlier that maybe at fault. I bought a new cable (wasted $), followed all the Apple instructions.... wondering if something got thru on my Mac to mess me up. Help!
Problem solved. Under Finder prefs Locations is CDs, DVDs, etc.... and it was turned off. Would not recognize them.
NOW the mystery. It turned it on. Later I did a Restart... and found it turned OFF.
