How do I delete a file. I.ve started thing that I don't want to finish and I want to quickly get rid of it.
Open the Finder app and locate the file. Then drag it to the trash icon at the bottom of your screen.

Can you just quit the App you are creating it in?
Drag the file to the Trash, then Finder -> Empty Trash
If you just want to delete this 1 file, and not all the files in the trash, then you could use Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
rm <drag the file from the Finder to the Terminal window now> <return>
The rm command stands for remove
Be VERY careful playing with commands in the Terminal. They are not forgiving of mistakes. People have been known to turn their Macs into very expensive Door Stops.
